Sketches for Ogee Garden, by PeninaReturning to this awkwardly-named, but endlessly-intriguing motif, I filled a few more pages in a sketchbook and decided to pursue a loosely drawn “garden”.

Scanned, vectorized, and seamlessly tiled, the pattern was then brought into Photoshop, where a subtle texture was added to give it depth.

The first fabric test was done in a cheekier palette—olive and orchid (okay, green and pink) on Spoonflower’s Eco Canvas. It came out great, but we also needed to see a calmer colorway and opted for the range of blues shown below.

The fabric in the photo is Ottoman Rib which, at the time of this post, is not yet publicly available on Spoonflower. Of course, it can be printed to any of their other current fabrics, including basic combed cotton, organic cotton knit, canvas and silk. My current favorite is the Eco Canvas, which is strong, but surprisingly bright and lightweight (click here to see Spoonflower’s current fabric offerings).
