Most of the time (but not all of the time), a website background should stay in the background. It should provide just enough color, just enough interest and style, and set the stage for your foreground content to do the talking.
I did this as a birthday gift for a friend a little while ago, and was just thinking there must be other scholar-gentlewomen. It’s still up on flickr, so if you know a scholar and a gentlewoman (or are one), you should download it and maybe make a teeshirt transfer or a balloon.
Connections are how we build relationships. Graphic arts are communication arts, which succeed when they create or strengthen relationships.
Whether the other person is a friend, someone we work with, someone we interact with only briefly or that abstraction we call “our market”, we start with connections…

Well, I do mention “Aesthetics,” and look! There’s “Brand Tone”… that’s sort of designy. But how do all those rather un-designy components add up to the glorious space in the middle?
At the moment, we’re strengthening our sales presentations over at H1Talent, a job matching site for H1-B visa holders and the companies that seek them. We’ve got great numbers, but we needed more imagery to communicate the business concept, as well as some data visualization to bring those great numbers to life.
