Everything is going to be OK. I haven’t heard back on my latest round of rental applications, but I know where to go for distraction-free work, a good cuppa and even to get some laundry done.

EZ New Web Laundromat & Café
(in Culver City, on Washington and McManus)

I’ve heard complaints about the internet access, but I have had trouble only with instant messaging. Everything else has been solid. Well, I suppose a few more outlets wouldn’t hurt: Whoever gets the one table that is near an outlet tends to commandeer it for the rest of the morning (but two poofy chairs are near wall plugs, too).

In Atlanta, we went to a SuperCuts that had “unexplained” wi-fi access. It was always there, never asked for passwords, and helped pass the time while we waited for our turn. No more staring at magazines full of subtly differentiated hairstyles. We started coming in with our own coffee (and hot chocolate), to complete the cafe ambience.

How cool is that? If I’d have known there were places where you could access the internets while waiting for laundry machines, I would have been a happier laundry person.

I had tried a couple laundromats when clothes piled up to insanity level, but was fortunate that the small complex I lived in had a washer and dryer. In the 2 1/2 years I lived there, every single person remembered to clean out the lint from the dryer. That’s gotta be a record of some kind.
